About KettaDesigns
Ketta Design was founded in 2020, at the same time as KettaFabrics. It is meant to be a centralized location for all the crafts and services I provide.
Since I was first able to coordinate my hands with my eyes, I have had a creative side, forcing it's way out of me. Growing up, I experimented fabricating dream catchers, leather working, stitching, looming, pottery, jewelry making, clay working, writing, painting, wood carving, sewing, crocheting, dancing, gymnastics and several other creative outlets, all at varying degrees of success.
I have done graphic and website design since 1998, at only 13. I originally designed websites in my free time, for fun, but then was asked to build one for a local business that didn't have the need for a complicated website, from a large, expensive company. Word of mouth got me many other small jobs like that, and my first venture into the business world began.
Then, in 2011, I was introduced to the addictive and fulfilling art of combining small rings of various materials, to create beautiful, chains and sheets of unique, and durable chainmaille. I was enthralled. Within two months, I already spent hundreds of dollars, investing in tools, supplies, and even materials to wrap, cut and tumble my own rings by hand. Every waking moment of my time was dedicated to learning new weaves, design techniques, and the production process of my own supplies.
After receiving several compliments, and requests, I made the decision to begin listing my designs for purchase, on Etsy. However, to this day, I still sell most of my creations in person, where its so much easier to see the craftsmanship, and feel the weight of the unique jewelry style.
Then, in 2020, as we all know, a worldwide pandemic came about, and the need for masks far outweighed the availability of them. My family turned to me, as ‘the creative one’, to meet the needs for ourselves, and the friends of our family. With the help of a friend, I located an old Singer model sewing machine in a pawnshop, fixed it, and began to learn the art of sewing. Much like with my obsession with chainmaille, I was quickly drawn to the many possibilities sewing opened for me, and I began buying way more fabric than any one person should ever own, and trying out multiple mask patterns, until I was satisfied with a few of them.
I even designed some of my own fabric, and enjoy the prospect of doing more of that in the future.
Now, with the pandemic finally looking like it might come to an end one day, I have begun exploring other fun and useful things to sew with all my excess fabric. (Bags, reusable hot/cold packs, quilts, and many more to come…) As I pin down designs I am happy with, many of these things will be coming to this site for purchase. Eventually, I would like to explore sharing tips with people on both chainmaille and sewing, as they are my biggest passion.
